About David

David Leon Zink lives and works in Butte County, California as a husband, father, grandfather, writer, musician, community organizer and consultant.

Raised in Oroville, he graduated in 1984 from California State University in Chico with majors in Religious Studies and Music, then moved to Pasadena to pursue a career as a performing songwriter. Shortly after the birth of his daughter, David took on work in direct response fundraising for nonprofits, serving organizations that serve people. After a brief sojourn with a boutique commercial consulting firm, David began his career as a freelance consultant and writer.

The family returned to Butte County in 2007, settling on the Paradise Ridge. The 2018 Camp Fire led David to focus his work on recovery and resilience, investing effort with local nonprofits on community reorganizing and rebuilding, particularly through engagement with the arts. He ran unsuccessfully for California State Assembly in 2022.

David received a cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2024. Now in remission and working on recovery, David is focused on recovery, family, study, writing, recording new music and reconnecting with his community.
